Craftsman = Chamberlain = LiftMaster

Here's the secret that most people don't know: Craftsman garage door openers are manufactured by The Chamberlain Group. They use identical internal components, technology, and circuit boards as Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers.

This means any Chamberlain or LiftMaster remote will work with your Craftsman opener. You're not limited to Craftsman-branded remotes. In fact, Chamberlain remotes are often easier to find and less expensive than Craftsman-branded ones.

Identifying Your Craftsman Opener Technology

Craftsman has used the same LEARN button colors as Chamberlain/LiftMaster over the years:

Security+ 2.0 (Yellow Learn Button)

Craftsman openers with yellow LEARN buttons use Security+ 2.0 rolling code technology. This is found on most models manufactured after 2011, including AssureLink and WiFi-connected models.

Security+ (Red/Orange/Purple Learn Button)

Craftsman openers from roughly 2005-2011 use Security+ technology. Red, orange, or purple LEARN buttons all indicate Security+ rolling code. These are fully compatible with Chamberlain Security+ remotes.

Common Craftsman Remote Problems

Problem: Remote programs but door doesn't move
Solution: Check the Lock feature on your wall control panel. Press and hold the Lock button for 3 seconds to toggle it on/off. When locked, the light on the wall panel flashes.

Problem: Craftsman remote lost programming
Solution: This can happen if you replace the battery or if power is lost to the opener. Simply reprogram by pressing the LEARN button and then the remote button.

Problem: Only one remote works after replacing opener
Solution: You need to program each remote separately. Press the LEARN button once, then program Remote 1. Then press LEARN again and program Remote 2. Repeat for each remote.

Problem: Remote works from garage but not from car
Solution: This is usually a range issue. Replace the remote battery. Check the antenna wire on the motor unit (it should hang down loosely). LED lights in the garage can cause interference.

Craftsman AssureLink & WiFi Models

Newer Craftsman openers with AssureLink or WiFi connectivity can be controlled from your smartphone. The AssureLink feature is Craftsman's version of myQ. Programming physical remotes to AssureLink models works the same way as standard Craftsman openers - use the LEARN button on the motor unit.

Using Chamberlain/LiftMaster Remotes

Since Craftsman, Chamberlain, and LiftMaster are the same company internally, you can freely mix and match remotes:

• Use a Chamberlain remote with a Craftsman opener - YES
• Use a LiftMaster remote with a Craftsman opener - YES
• Use a Craftsman remote with a Chamberlain opener - YES

Just make sure the remote technology matches: Security+ 2.0 remotes with Security+ 2.0 openers, etc.

Save Money with Universal Remotes

Official Craftsman remotes cost $40-60. Universal garage remotes cost $15-25 and work perfectly. Look for "Craftsman compatible" or "Chamberlain compatible" on the package - they're the same thing.
